Why use a Homemade All-Purpose Cleaner?
Convenience
There is a sense of pride whenever you make something from scratch, but there are additional benefits to a homemade all-purpose cleaner. For starters, having a recipe for a homemade concoction gives you the ability to whip something up quickly. No need to make a trip to the store if you are out of the store brand version because the ingredients are already in most homes.
Eco-friendly
Because each ingredient is found naturally in the environment, this cleaner is eco-friendly. Also, mixing the products together in a reusable spray bottle yourself reduces the carbon footprint that comes from manufacturing.
Recipe
Mix the following ingredients together in a spray bottle. Be sure to label the bottle if you intend to store the solution for further use.
- -1 teaspoon borax
- -1/2 teaspoon washing soda
- -2 teaspoons white vinegar
- -1/2 teaspoon dishwashing detergent
- -2 cups of hot water
- -Cut up lemon peels
The acetic acid in the vinegar will kill bacteria and germs. The solution will also do a good job at removing buildup from showers, tubs, and sinks left from hard water.
The lemon peels will leave a good scent instead of just the unpleasant odor of vinegar. The acid from the lemon will help to kill bacteria, too.

When you combine baking soda and vinegar, you don’t get a super household cleaner—you get water, salt, and whatever is left of the unbalanced chemical. In other words, you’ve taken an acidic cleaner (vinegar) and a basic cleaner (baking soda) and neutralized them, making them weaker.
A better recipe would be to just dilute one or the other, but not both.
here’s a site that explains it:

Seround, thanks for the heads up! I’ve updated the article to reflect a better mixture.
